Description
Viola Bow Stamped “H.R. Pfretzschner” – 70.38g
This bow was made in the Hermann Richard Pfretzschner workshop around the mid-20th Century. It bears the typical marks of a bow from this workshop at this time, being stamped “H.R. PFRETZSCHNER”, “MADE IN GDR” on the stick’s underside, and the Saxon royal coat of arms on its frog. The octagonal stick is made of pernambuco and features a more widely-chamfered tip, silver winding, and extended leather lapping. The frog is silver mounted with a Parisian eye.
This bow offers an ease and flexibility in legato playing, with a resonant tone to accompany. The bow sits comfortably in the string for martele and staccato strokes, and spiccato and sautille feels responsive and well balanced.
