About the Maker:
Alexander Smillie (1847–1923) was a skilled Scottish violin maker based in Glasgow. Over his career, he crafted around 300 violins, violas, and cellos, inspired by classical Italian models such as Stradivari and Guarneri. Smillie began his work from a workshop in Crosshill before relocating to St George’s Road. His instruments are known for their solid craftsmanship, rich oil varnish, and warm, balanced tone
